Dave Rice was a two-sport athlete/captain at Nichols College (ice hockey & baseball) who received the Hal Chalmers Award for Sportsmanship and Dedication in 1979, the J. Cliff Dietrich Memorial Award for Athletic Ability, Sportsmanship and Contributions to Community in 1979, The Unsung Hero Award for Hockey in 1979, the Jim Miller Award for Outstanding Male Senior Athlete in 1980, the Margaret Conrad Chalmers Award for Baseball in 1980, the Unsung Hero Award for Baseball in 1980, and the Robert Bumford Award for Outstanding Hockey Player in 1980 in. He graduated No. 1 in goals by a defenseman (23) and No. 2 in points (49), and was named Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Week in ice hockey on February 3, 1979.Â
