The Nichols College men's tennis program hosted the Nichols College Invitational (NCI) Sunday morning on the Robinson Tennis Courts in Dudley, Mass.
The Bison came out strong early and swept all three singles flights against opposing schools Springfield College, Ramapo College, and Colby-Sawyer College.
Junior classmates
Guilherme Barbosa,
Brandon Howard, and
Jack Donaldson all went on to win their flights in singles competition. Barbosa took the Flight-A singles, 6-0, 7-5, over senior Alex Wright from Colby-Sawyer. Howard and Donaldson both defeated student-athletes from Ramapo College in the finals for Flights-B and C, respectfully, to give the Bison the sweep of singles competition.
In the Flight-A doubles competition, the championship round came down to two Nichols teams. Senior
Igor Markowski and junior
Peter Coletti were able to defeat senior teammates
Blake Norton and
Sebastian Penaloza,9-7, to give the Bison their fourth title of the day.
Meanwhile, over in Flight-B doubles, senior
Kirill Ivanov and sophomore
Nicolas Bezada teamed up to take down student-athletes Will Madden and Matt Williamson from Colby-Sawyer in the Flight-B doubles title match 8-3. This gave the Bison a clean sweep on the day winning every flight final.
Three things you need to know…
-The Bison swept in the finals of all five flights, after only picking up three titles a year ago.
-Nichols had three other student-athletes participate – senior
Aidan Stuart, sophomore
Brendan Stierli, and freshman
Enrico Menegon.
-Nichols student-athletes blanked their competition in three matches.
