DUDLEY, Mass. (9/16/2026) - The Nichols College men's tennis team opened its 2026-27 season Wednesday afternoon, dropping a 5-2 decision to Clark University at the Robinson Tennis Courts.

The Bison move to 0-1 on the season, while the Cougars improve to 1-0.

Nichols opened the afternoon by taking one of three doubles matches. Jodha Singh and Mason Harris teamed up at No. 3 doubles and earned a convincing 6-2 victory over Ved Rao and Edward Danziger. Clark, however, claimed the other two doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.

At No. 1 doubles, Pablo Carrascosa and Felipe Gonzalez battled Edward Shepherd-Johnson and Aris Kirkorian before falling in a tightly contested 7-6 decision. Rodolfo Hernandez and Arthur Santos also battled at No. 2 doubles, dropping a 7-5 decision to Ziad Thabbara and Marciej Jaruga.

Andrew Emmel picked up a singles victory for the Bison at No. 6. Emmel overcame a first-set deficit to defeat Matthias Birkenholz, 6-7, 6-3, earning Nichols its first team point of the afternoon.

Carrascosa also provided Nichols with a win at No. 1 singles. After dropping the opening set, 6-4, the freshman rallied to take the second set, 7-5, before completing the comeback with a 1-0 victory in the deciding third-set super tiebreak.

Clark secured the remaining four singles matches to claim the 5-2 team victory. Edward Shepherd-Johnson defeated Gonzalez, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0, at No. 2, while Ziad Thabbara earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Singh at No. 3. At No. 4, Marciej Jaruga defeated Hernandez, 6-0, 6-4, and Sebastian Elias topped Santos, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 5.

Nichols College men's tennis returns to action on Friday, October 2, when the Bison host Wheaton College at the Robinson Tennis Courts. First serve is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
