POMFRET CENTER, Conn. - The Nichols College men's tennis team picked up a pair of victories on Sunday afternoon, defeating Colby-Sawyer College, 6-3, before downing Wheelock College, 9-0, in two non-league matches at the Pomfret Academy.
The Bison improve to 11-2 overall with the win and return to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Tuesday afternoon with a 4:00 p.m. match against Western New England University at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
In the first match of the day against the Chargers, Nichols was able to grab a 2-1 lead following doubles play as sophomores
Guilherme Barbosa and
Peter Coletti defeated sophomore Matt Burke and sophomore Cam Lynch at No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Sophomore
Brandon Howard and junior
Igor Markowski followed with an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles over junior Alex Wright and senior Andrew Peloquin.

Colby-Sawyer grabbed its first point of the day at the top doubles position as senior Gustav Jigrup and freshman Nick Mathieu defeated junior
Blake Norton and freshman
August Moeller, 8-5.

In singles play, sophomore
Jack Donaldson grabbed the third point of the day for the Bison by rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 6 singles over senior Ross Kenney. The Chargers got a point back at No. 4 singles as Burke defeated freshman
Brandon Stewart, 6-3, 6-1. Norton got the Bison back on track with a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles over Wright, while Howard grabbed the deciding point for Nichols with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-0 win at No. 1 singles over Jigrup.

Moeller grabbed the last point of the day for Nichols with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Peloquin, while the Chargers won the final match at No. 2 singles as Mathieu battled past Barbosa, 2-6, 7-6 (15-13), 7-6 (14-12).
In their second match of the day, the Bison made quick work of the Wildcats, only dropping 11 points across all nine matchups. Freshman

Sunday marked the 27th meeting between Nichols and Colby-Sawyer, and the Bison improved to 15-12 all-time against the Chargers. Sunday was the first meeting between Nichols and Wheelock.
