DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College men's tennis team opened up the spring semester with a 6-3 win over Union College on Saturday afternoon at the Pomfret School in Pomfret, Conn.

The Bison pick up their first win of the year to improve to 1-1, while Union dips to 1-3. Nichols returns to action on Tuesday when they take on Earlham in Orlando, Fla.

Nichols took an early 2-1 lead following doubles play as junior
Igor Markowski and sophomore
Brandon Howard opened up the match with an 8-2 win over junior Zach Kaplan and sophomore Del Schunk at No. 3 doubles. The Dutchmen got one back at No. 1 doubles as the freshman duo of Austin and Max Egna defeated junior
Blake Norton and freshman
August Moeller, 8-6. Sophomore
Guilherme Barbosa and sophomore
Peter Coletti defeated sophomore David Bond and junior Max McGeown, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles.

In singles play, Howard made quick work of Schunk at the top singles position with a 6-1, 6-0 win over the sophomore. Barbosa rebounded with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Austin Egna at No. 2 singles, with
Blake Norton sealing the Nichols victory by registering a 6-2, 6-1 win over Max McGeown.

Jack Donaldson rallied for a 6-7 (2-7), 6-2, 6-4 win over sophomore Justin Gold for the final point of the day for the Bison at No. 6 singles. Union would add wins at No. 4 and No. 5 singles to give the match its final score.
