Bison handle Roger Williams, 7-2

BRISTOL, R.I.
– The Nichols College men's tennis team defeated Roger Williams 7-2 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Tuesday evening at the RWU Tennis Courts.
 
The Bison took two of the three doubles matches before taking care of business on the singles side – winning five of the six matches.
 
Sophomore Blake Norton (Stratford, Conn.) and freshman Brandon Howard (Hamden, Conn.) took care of business in the top flight of doubles defeating junior Grant Rosenberg (Melville, N.Y.) and sophomore Nick Spoor (Ballston Spa, N.Y.), 9-7.
 
The Bison also took No. 2 doubles as senior captain James Smith (Monte Sereno, Calif.) and freshman Guilherme Barbosa (Bradenton, Fla.) took down freshman Jake Cole (Sterling, Va.) and senior Matthew Russo (Branford, Conn.), 8-3.
 
The Hawks only win in doubles came from the No. 3 flight. Freshmen Thomas O'Leary (North Easton, Mass.) and Brendan White (Old Lyme, Conn.) defeated sophomore Igor Markowski (Paris, France) and senior Jake Zapatka (Wethersfield, Conn.), 8-5.
 
On the singles side, the Bison took the top two flights and No. 5 singles by identical 6-2, 6-1 scores as Norton defeated White and Howard defeated Cole and Zapatka defeated Russo, respectively.
 
Smith handled business against Rosenberg at No. 3 singles – winning in straight sets 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Jack Donaldson (Easton, Md.) made up the final win for the Bison at No. 6 singles defeating O'Leary 6-4, 6-0.
 
The Hawks only singles win came at No. 4 singles with Spoor knocking off Barbosa  7-5, 4-6, 10-5.
 
All-Time Series
The Bison have now won six of the last eight meetings with the Hawks dating back to the 2013 CCC Championship. Roger Williams still leads the all-time series at, 17-15.
