Nichols competes in Conn. College Tournament

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Nichols College men's tennis team participated in the Connecticut College/Coast Guard Men's Tennis Tournament on Saturday, October 7. Several other schools participated besides the Bison including Merrimack College, Trinity College, and Stonehill College.
 
In Flight A doubles play, the combo of sophomore Guilherme Barbosa (Bradenton, Fla.) and freshman August Moeller (Hellerup, Denmark) fell to the Trinity team of senior Rex Glickman (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and sophomore Courtland Boyle (Pembroke, Mass.), 8-6, before defeating the Merrimack tandem of senior Mikhail Belov (Krasnoarmeyskoy, Russia) and senior Thomas O'Brien (Lancaster, Pa.), 8-2.
 
In Flight B, sophomore Peter Coletti (Beverly, Mass.) and junior Igor Markowski (Paris, France) dropped an 8-6 decision to Conn. College's freshmen duo of Zak Danz and Ethan Hecker, and fell to Trinity's sophomore William Frigerio (Villanova, Pa.) and freshman Tanner Boyle (Pembroke, Mass.) by a matching score in their next match.
 
In Flight C, the team of junior Blake Norton (Stratford, Conn.) and freshman Brandon Stewart posted an 8-4 win over Stonehill's senior Jeffrey Gagnon (Providence, R.I.) and freshman Jonathan Gordon (Marlborough, Mass.) and followed that up with an 8-1 win over Coast Guard's freshman Kyle Fager (Spokane, Wash.) and sophomore Hunter Shortly (Forest Lake, Minn.). Also in Flight C, junior Kirill Ivanov (Moscow, Russia) and junior Aidan Stuart (Orange, Conn.) fell to Coast Guard's senior John Hu (Plainsboro, N.J.) and senior Ben Errington (Cypress, Texas), 8-3, and later lost to Connecticut's junior Scott Brown (Old Greenwich, Conn.) and freshman Brandon Ameglio, 8-4.
 
As the tournament moved to singles play, Barbosa fell to Trinity's Glickman, 6-4, 6-1 in Flight A, while sophomore Brandon Howard (Hamden, Conn.) fell to Stonehill's sophomore Aaron Diamond (Moultonborough, N.H.), 6-4, 7-6 in Flight B. In Flight C, sophomore Jack Donaldson (Easton, Md.) dropped the opening set of his matchup with Coast Guard's sophomore Adam Bahney (Myerstown, Pa.), 7-5, but rebounded for a 6-1 win in the second set before falling 10-7 in the third.
 
Also in Flight C, Kirill Ivanov registered a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Stonehill's senior Tom Buckley (Hebron, Conn.), but dropped an 8-4 decision to Trinity's freshman Granville Kaynor (New Orleans, La.) in his next match.
 
In singles Flight D, Peter Coletti fell to Trinity's freshman Christopher Bilicic (Chicago, Ill.), 8-6, while in Flight E, Brandon Stewart defeated Stonehill's Gagnon, 6-1, 2-6, 10-5, and followed that up with a 9-7 setback to Conn. College's Zak Danz. Also in Flight E, August Moeller fell to Coast Guard's Fager, 7-5, 6-3, but rebounded for an 8-3 win over Conn.'s freshman Walter Komishane.
 
Finally in Flight F, Igor Markowski registered a 7-6, 6-1 win over Coast Guard's Hunter Shortly.
