Austin DuBois (Simsbury, Conn.) had wins in singles and doubles as the Nichols College men's tennis team defeated Curry 9-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon.
The Bison extend their winning streak against the Colonels to eight matches with the last time Curry came away with a victory against Nichols was in the 2007 season.
Nichols (11-5, 3-1 CCC) moved through the doubles matches with relative ease. In the top flight, junior
Josh Halpern (Secaucus, N.J.) and DuBois took care of business against sophomore Valvel Temin (Swampscott, Mass.) and junior Charlie Paltsios (Westford, Mass.), 8-1.
Freshman
Gage Fox (Brandon, Fla.) and sophomore
Dan Roberts (South Windsor, Conn.) won by the same score at No. 3 doubles, defeating seniors Joe Berger (Middleboro, Mass.) and Eric Hellberg (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.).
The Colonels (0-7, 0-3 CCC) played their most competitive match of the day at No. 2 doubles as sophomore Nick Poulack (Amherst, N.H.) and freshman Andrew Hegarty (East Islip, N.Y.) battled with sophomore
Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and senior
Cam Lewis (Bolton, Conn.) before falling 8-6.
The Bison took complete control over the singles matches. Castillo knocked off junior Toma Blatchford (Westmount, Quebec) at No. 1 singles 6-1, 6-0. Halpern defeated Temin 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and Fox won his No. 5 singles match against Hegarty 6-1, 6-1. At No. 4 singles, Lewis defeated Poulack 6-1, 6-1.
DuBois improved to 11-0 in his first collegiate-campaign after defeating Paltsios 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
Sophomore
Sachin Panchal (Somers, Conn.) won his first match of the season, defeating senior Jonathon Schutzman (Bellmore, N.Y.) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles to round out the day.
The Bison host conference foe Wentworth on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The Colonels host Roger Williams Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
