Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.) took care of business in singles and doubles as the Nichols College men's tennis team took care of Colby-Sawyer 7-2 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
The Bison have now defeated the Chargers each of the last three seasons, including a 5-0 win in the First Round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament.
Nichols took a commanding 3-0 lead by sweeping the doubles matches. Roode and freshman
Jordan Eriksen (Bradenton, Fla.) edged Colby-Sawyer's top duo of sophomores Cass McCann (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) and Myles Utell (Bedford, N.H.), 8-6.
Senior
Cam Lewis (Bolton, Conn.) and freshman
Keenan Hughes (Aurora, N.Y.) teamed for an 8-2 victory over senior Nathan Taschereau (Goffstown, N.H.) and freshman Rico Bailey (Mattapan, Mass.) at No. 2 doubles while junior
Josh Halpern (Secaucus, N.J.) and freshman
Austin DuBois (Simsbury, Conn.) gave Nichols a doubles sweep with an 8-4 win over Dean Boodakian and Andrew Peloquin at the third spot.
In singles play, Roode earned a point for the Bison with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at the top flight over Taschereau.
Colby-Sawyer got on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 victory from Utell over sophomore
Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) at the second flight.
In the tightest match of the afternoon, Halpern edged McCann 5-7, 6-4, 10-4 at No. 3 singles.
Sophomore
Jake Zapatka (Wethersfield, Conn.) cruised to a No. 4 singles victory over Peloquin, 6-0, 6-1, while Lewis earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Boodakian at No. 6.
Bailey recorded Colby-Sawyer's second singles win with a 7-5, 6-0 over Hughes in the fifth slot to close out the day.
The Bison (1-1) host Coast Guard Monday, October 13, at 3:00 p.m. at the Pomfret School. The Chargers (1-2) travel to take on Connecticut College on Saturday at a to be determined time.
