Nichols shuts down Endicott, 9-0

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Nichols College men's tennis team rolled to their 13th win in a row, blanking Endicott College 9-0 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Saturday afternoon at South Campus Courts.

Senior Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.) and junior Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.) defeated junior Michael Lauretano (Winchester, Mass.) and freshman Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) 8-2 at No. 1 doubles.

Freshman Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and sophomore Carlos De La Cruz (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) wasted no time in defeating juniors Timothy Forance (Natick, Mass.) and Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.) at No. 2 doubles, 8-1. At No. 3 doubles, sophomore Josh Halpern (Secaucus, N.J.) and freshman James Smith (Monte Sereno, Calif.) needed to go to a tie-breaker before taking down junior Justin Warshavsky (East Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore Clay Arnold (Ivoryton, Conn.) 9-8(7-5).

The Bison swept through the singles matches without dropping a set. DeLuca blanked Forance 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles while Roode took care of McAndrews 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles.

At No. 3 singles, Castillo defeated Lauretano 6-2, 6-2 and De La Cruz beat Warshavsky 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.

Freshman Jake Zapatka (Wethersfield, Conn.) picked up the win at No. 5 singles against Arnold, 6-2, 6-0. Halpern rounded out the afternoon defeating sophomore Tyler Lemieux (New Hartford, Conn.) 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.

The Bison travel to take on Wheaton College on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. The Gulls close out their season on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. when they travel to Salve Regina.
