Box ScoreQUINCY, Mass. - The Nichols College men's tennis team won each singles match as they defeated Eastern Nazarene College 8-1 in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play Tuesday afternoon at the Eastern Nazarene tennis courts.
The Bison got off to a good start, taking two of the three doubles matches. Graduate student
Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.) and junior
Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.) routed freshman Andres Biondi (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) and junior Sam McKay-Corkum (Rehobeth, Mass.) in the top match 8-2. At No. 2 doubles, freshman
Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and sophomore
Carlos De La Cruz (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) defeated junior Tyler Perron (Plympton, Mass.) and senior Nick Thompson (York, Pa.) 8-3.
Eastern Nazarene's (4-6, 1-1 CCC) lone victory on the day came at the No. 3 doubles position. The third doubles tandem of sophomore Kevin Paterno (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and junior Sam Son (Wilbraham, Mass.) claimed an 8-1 win over senior
Dan Roman (Tolland, Conn.) and sophomore
Josh Halpern (Secaucus, N.J.).
Nichols (9-1, 2-0 CCC) took complete charge of the singles matches. DeLuca defeated Biondi 6-0, 6-1 at the No. 1 singles position while Roode bested McKay-Corkum 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot.
At No. 3 singles, Castillo took the victory over Perron 6-1, 6-4 and De La Cruz defeated Paterno 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Halpern won the No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-1 over Son.
Freshman
Jake Zapatka (Wethersfield, Conn.) completed the afternoon winning in straight sets against sophomore Davis Steelman (Darlington, Md.) 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
The Bison are back in action on Saturday when they host Roger Williams University at a time to be announced. Eastern Nazarene will host Gordon College Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
