David Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.) claimed his second record in eight days as he became the program's career doubles win leader with an
8-0 triumph as part of a Bison 9-0 victory over Salve Regina in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match played at the Assumption Tennis Courts.
In addition to his 10th win with current partner senior
Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.), Drucker has earned wins with five other members of last season's CCC Championship team,
Eliot Wuhrmann '12 (21),
Arsen Gasparyan '12 (13),
Dan Saucier '12 (four),
Isiah Prosper (one) and Ari Viera '12 (one) as well as current rookie
Eduardo Irizarry (one). Seven wins have come against Division I or II level competition including three against local D-I Holy Cross and one over D-II Assumption.
Steve Carella '12, last season's co-captain, was the previous record holder for the Bison.
In singles action, Drucker extended his lead in the record book with his 58th singles win while simultaneously earning his 30th CCC victory as he took the second flight from freshman Khoa Nguyen (Haverhill, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0.
The Bison held a 3-0 advantage following the opening doubles session. Drucker and DeLuca topped Nguyen and junior Colin Gunning (Norwell, Mass.) while sophomore
Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.) and first-year
Carlos De La Cruz (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) set down sophomore Mike Gallerani (Fairfield, Conn.) and senior Brian Sweeney (Quincy, Mass.), 8-0. Junior
Paul Healy (Pomfret, Conn.) and sophomore
Bradley Minton (Dudley, Mass.) wrapped things up with an 8-2 win over senior Kenneth McCormack (Falmouth, Mass.) and sophomore Monaf Awwa (Old Lyme, Conn.) at the third flight.
Drucker, DeLuca and De La Cruz raced out to 6-0. 6-0 wins at the top three flights. Junior
Dan Roman (Tolland, Conn.) claimed the fourth flight 6-2., 6-1 while junior
Paul Armstrong (New Preston, Conn.) posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at the sixth flight. Sophomore
Andrew Haas (Whitinsville, Mass.) completed the sweep with a 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 triumph at the fifth flight.
Nichols (13-5, 5-1 CCC) hosts Wentworth for an 11:00 a.m. CCC match on Saturday at Assumption as part of a men's and women's spring doubleheader. Salve Regina (1-12, 1-7 CCC) entertains CCC foe Western New England tomorrow at 2:30 p.m.
