Bison Defeat Colonels, 7-2; Drucker Ties Career Doubles Record

MILTON, Mass. - The regionally-ranked Nichols College men's tennis team topped Commonwealth Coast Conference opponent Curry, 7-2 on Tuesday afternoon. Graduate student David Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.) helped the Bison establish a 3-0 lead after doubles and in the process tied Steve Carella '12 for first place in program history with his 50th career doubles victory.
 
Drucker and senior Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.) took the first flight 8-0 and were joined in the win column by sophomore Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.) and first-year Carlos De La Cruz (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) who claimed the second flight 8-1. Juniors Paul Healy (Pomfret, Conn.) and Dan Roman (Tolland, Conn.) completed the sweep with an 8-2 triumph at the third flight.
 
In singles action, DeLuca (6-0, 6-0) and Drucker (6-1, 6-0) cruised to victories at the top two flights. Sophomore Cam Lewis (Bolton, Mass.) won the third flight 7-5, 6-4 and classmate Andrew Haas (Whitinsville, Mass.) claimed the fourth flight 7-5, 6-1 as both student-athletes made their debuts at their respective spot in the lineup. First-year Joseph Beasley (Eastham, Mass.) absorbed a 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) setback and sophomore Mathew Paulsen (Billerica, Mass.) was defeated 6-1, 6-0 at the sixth flight as both appeared in their first collegiate match.
 
Nichols (12-5, 4-1 CCC) entertains Salve Regina on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. The match will be played at Assumption College in Worcester, Mass. Curry (4-10, 0-6 CCC) heads to Endicott on Saturday for its penultimate CCC regular season match at noon.
