AMHERST, Mass. - The regionally-ranked Nichols College men's tennis team fell to nationally-ranked Amherst by an 8-1 decision on Saturday in a rematch of last year's NCAA Men's Tennis Championship Second Round. The Lord Jeffs, ranked 19th in the country, and third in the region, improved to 14-7 while the Bison, recently ranked 18th in the region, had their five-match winning streak halted and slip to 9-4.

Eduardo Irizarry (Lajas, Puerto Rico) picked up the lone Bison victory as he ran his singles winning streak to eight matches by defeating fellow rookie Russell Einbinder (Roxbury, Conn.), 6-4, 6-3. Sophomore
Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.), the regions 15th-ranked student-athlete, faced the only ranked Lord Jeff as he fell to first-year Ben Fife (Scarsdale, N.Y.), the regions third-ranked player, 6-0, 6-1.
Nichols is currently scheduled to face Salve Regina at home on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
