DUDLEY, Mass. – First-years Josh Halpern (Secaucus, N.J.) and Eduardo Irizarry (Lajas, Puerto Rico) did not surrender a point as each claimed their respective singles flights 6-0, 6-0 to help the Nichols College men's tennis squad to a 9-0 victory over visiting Springfield on a sunny Wednesday afternoon at Francis W. Robinson Courts in a non-conference fall contest. With the win the Bison improve to 3-0 while Springfield falls to 0-1 in its 2012-13 dual match slate.
 
The team of Irizarry and sophomore Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.) took down senior Benjamin Burnap (Westerly, R.I.) and sophomore Kyle Mersereau (Brunswick, Maine) in the first flight while sophomore Cam Lewis (Bolton, Mass.) made his first appearance of the year and rookie AJ Wypychoski (Holly Springs, N.C.) made his collegiate debut as the duo posted an 8-3 victory at the third doubles flight. Junior Isiah Prosper  (Manchester, N.H) picked up his 35th doubles win as he teamed with senior Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.) for an 8-2 triumph at the second doubles position.
 
DeLuca went on to notch his 35th singles triumph as he defeated Mersereau 6-1, 6-0 at the first flight. Halpern and Irizarry blanked their opponents as Roode (6-1, 6-0), graduate student David Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.) (6-1, 6-2) and Prosper (6-0, 6-4) all won for the Bison.
 
As a team Nichols is idle until October 1st when the team ventures to Babson for a 3:00 p.m. match. Select student-athletes will be participating in the ultra-competitive USTA/ITA Division III New England Regional Championships on September 28. Springfield travels to Connecticut College on Saturday morning for a 10:00 a.m. eye-opener.
