Men's Tennis Doubles Up Gulls, Claims CCC Top Seed

Bison go 8-0 in CCC, run win streak to 14 matches

BEVERLY, Mass. (April 25) – The Nichols College men's tennis team clinched the top seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship for the second season in a row Wednesday afternoon with a 6-3 victory at Endicott. The Bison complete the CCC season undefeated at 8-0 and run their win streak to 14 matches, boosting their record to 15-3. Endicott dips to 9-10 overall and 5-3 in league play to earn the league's fourth seed.

Nichols led, 2-1, after doubles play with wins at the second and third flights. Justin Deluca and Isiah Prosper  won their ninth consecutive pairing, defeating Porter Williams and Evan Ross at the third spot, 8-2. Endicott took the top flight with an 8-5 victory, seeing Olivier Joggi and Jake Cohen edge Steve Carella and Brandon Roode.

The Bison had the match clinched in just over two hours, getting wins from the top three singles flights and a 6-0, 6-1 victory from Deluca at the fifth flight, his fourth in a row. Prosper won his 14th-straight match, playing up at the third spot against Ross and dealing a 6-2, 6-4 blow. Roode cruised past Joggi at the top flight, 6-2, 6-4, to rally after his lone loss on the year last Saturday, and David Drucker posted his fourth-straight win, a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Porter Williams at the second flight.

Cohen and Tim Forance picked up singles points for the Gulls. Cohen defeated Carella, 6-4, 6-3, and Forance dueled Dan Saucier to a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory at the sixth spot.

Nichols earns a bye in the first round of the CCC Championship Tournament and will prepare for the semifinals by traveling to Division I Holy Cross on Monday, April 30 for a 4 p.m. match. Endicott will travel to third seed Western New England Saturday for a 1 p.m. CCC Quarterfinal match.
