DUDLEY, Mass. (Sept. 17) – The Nichols College men's tennis team rebounded from a 5-4 decision to Holy Cross in the morning session to blank Assumption, 9-0, in the evening at the Francis W. Robinson Courts on Saturday. With the results, Nichols moves to 1-2 while Holy Cross begins the season 2-0 and Assumption starts the 2011-12 campaign at 0-2.

Holy Cross won both of its matches, holding on for the one-point victory over the host Bison, and rolling past the Greyhounds, 9-0, in its first two dual matches of the year, while Assumption had a chance in each match to take at least one flight.

In the day's opening action, Holy Cross' Ryan Sullivan teamed up with Nick Berrettini for an 8-5 top doubles win, but Nichols senior David Drucker had the upper hand over Sullivan in a lengthy battle at the first singles flight, prevailing 7-6 (7-3), 6-7 (5-7), 1-0 (10-4) to finish play. Drucker joined with Arsen Gasparyan for a second doubles victory in the duo's first pairing, defeating Chris Das and Tim Regan, 8-0.

The Crusaders made quick work of the Greyhounds in the afternoon matchup, cruising through doubles play with an alternate lineup, but in singles action, Assumption's Joseph Esposito took Das to a third set tiebreak before falling 2-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-7) long after the other courts had emptied.

In the nightcap, Nichols cruised past Assumption with the exception of the sixth flight. Bison first-year Cam Lewis battled junior Pat Murray for the final point of the match and the day. Murray won the first set 4-6 and Lewis took the second  set 6-3. The final pairing went to a tiebreaker where the rookie earned a 10-6 victory.

The Bison are back in action September 23-25 at the ITA New England Regional Tournament hosted by Williams College.
