DUDLEY, Mass. (Oct. 13) – The Nichols College men's tennis team edged Coast Guard, 5-4, Wednesday afternoon at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. First year Isaiah Prosper (Manchester, N.H.) clinched the match by breaking serve in the first game of the third set and holding the rest of the way for a 1-6, 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 win at fourth singles.

Coast Guard held a 2-1 lead after doubles play. Nichols' Justin DeLuca (Mashpee, Mass.) and Steve Carella (Rocky Hill, Conn.) picked up the lone point for the Bison with an 8-5 win at the top flight.

Josh Fischer edged the Bears ahead to a 3-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Wuhrmann at the fifth singles flight before Drucker and DeLuca tied it up with wins at the second and first flights respectively. Drucker ousted Nick Martin, 6-1, 6-0, while DeLuca finished off Greg Mitchell, 6-1, 6-3, to remain undefeated in his college career.

Dean edged Coast Guard back ahead when he defeated Carella, 6-3, 6-4 at the third flight, but Dan Saucier (Newington, Conn.) knotted it back up with a 6-1, 6-3 sixth flight victory over Anthony Foss.

Chris Hoffman took an early lead on Prosper, but the rookie rallied from down, 5-4, in the second set to take the tiebreak before breaking serve in the first game and rolling from there.

Nichols (1-1) closes out the fall season Thursday in a 3 p.m. match at Assumption. Coast Guard ends the fall season with a 4-2 record.
