BEVERLY, Mass. – The Endicott men's tennis team posted a 6-3 win over TCCC foe Nichols College on Wednesday afternoon in Beverly, Mass. The win improves the Gulls to 7-4 overall and 6-3 in Conference play, while the Bison slip to 10-6 and 3-3 in TCCC contests.
The Bison's Stephen Carella (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and Oliver McNutt (East Lyme, Conn.) edged Mike D'Ambra and Devon Locke, 9-7, at No. 2 doubles to tie the Nichols College season wins record in their 13th victory of the season; they stand at 13-1 on the year.
Endicott's Josh Schoen and Dan Murray opened the day with an 8-2 doubles win over Jack Baker (Cheshire, Conn.) and Tyler McLaughlin (Hollis, N.H.). Murray's serve came on late in the top-doubles match, as the Gulls duo coasted to an easy victory.
In perhaps the most thrilling match of the day, Scott Teller and Marc Maloney rallied to defeat Dan Saucier (Newington, Conn.) and Eliot Wurhrmann (Fontainbleau, France), 9-8, with the tiebreaker going 10-8 in the Gulls' favor.
In singles play, Josh Schoen, Dan Murray and Mike D'Ambra all posted wins in the No. 1, 2, and 3 hole for the Blue and Green. Nichols' McNutt edged Devon Locke in the fourth singles, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4. Scott Teller got by Wuhrmann in straight sets while Saucier downed Marc Maloney in the final singles match up.
Nichols retakes the court Saturday at Western New England College at noon in a rescheduled TCCC match before returning home to host Gordon College for Senior Day on April 14th.
