BEVERLY, Mass. (11/3/23) – On Monday morning, Nichols College men's golf graduate
Colby Mitchell was crowned the Commonwealth Coast Conference's Player of the Year, joining two other teammates as CCC All-Conference selectees for the 2023 season.
In addition to claiming top honors, Mitchell was also selected to the CCC All-Conference First Team, while sophomore
Cameron Desante and senior
Luke Sargent were each named to the Third Team.
Now a two-time Player of the Year honoree, Mitchell makes his fourth career appearance on the CCC First Team. This season, the Gloucester, Massachusetts native was the top finisher for the Bison in each of the program's five tournaments played, including a winning performance at the CCC Championship on October 19
th and 20
th, finishing the two rounds with a 142 (-2). A week prior, Mitchell also claimed runner-up at the NEIGA Championships with a score of 147 (+1), finishing just two strokes out of the lead. Throughout the season, Mitchell averaged a team-low 73.1 strokes per round and posted the team's lowest round score of 70 (-2) at the CCC Championships.
Desante, who was named the CCC Rookie of the Year last season, makes his way to the All-Conference Third Team for the first time in his collegiate career. In his sophomore season, the Pascoag, Rhode Island native averaged 78.8 for 18 holes and finished under 80 in eight of 12 rounds this fall. At the CCC Championship, he tied for 13
th place with a 155 (+11) and registered the team's 3
rd lowest single-round score of the season through the opening round at 75 (+3).
Sargent, in his senior season with the Bison, finished the fall with an 18-hole stroke average of 80.1 for seven rounds. On two occasions, he recorded his season-low round score of 76 (+4) with the most recent coming at the NEIGA Championship on October 15
th. Having previously earned two consecutive Second Team honors, the fellow Gloucester, Massachusetts native is now a three-time recipient of All-Conference recognition from the CCC.
Men's Golf will return to play in the spring of 2024, with the official schedule to be released at a later date and time.
