DUDLEY, Mass. – Nichols College junior
Isabella Nerney was named Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week and freshman
Alexis Finnerty was named CCC Rookie of the Week for their performances this past week.
Nerney scored 51 points this past week to help the Bison go 2-0 and pick up their first CCC win of the season. Last Tuesday, Nerney dropped in 15 points and snared five rebounds in the 69-62 come-from-behind win over conference-rival Wentworth. On Saturday, the Guilford, Conn. native had an historic game as she poured in 36 points (10-of-20 FG) - including a program record eight 3-pointers - to go with eight rebounds in the Bison's 70-62 win against Clark (MA) University. Nerney's eight triples broke the program-record held by current head coach
MaryLynn Skarzenski, and her 36 points was the second most scored in a game in program history.
"This is a great accomplishment for both Izzy and Lexie," said Skarzenski. "They helped us pick up two good wins last week. The hard work they and their teammates put in on a daily basis is paying off."
Finnerty, meanwhile, averaged 20 points last week. She scored 18 points (6-of-9 FG) and hauled in four rebounds against the Leopards, collecting 16 of her 18 points in the second half. On Saturday, the Chester, Conn. native dropped her second 20+ point game of season with 22 against the Cougars. She also added three boards and three assists. Once again, she was very productive in crunch time, scoring 18 of her 22 points in the second half of the win. This is Finnerty's second Rookie of the Week award this season.
This is the first time since 2017 that the Bison have won a CCC Player of the Week award when Amy Assad was tabbed POW on December 4, 2017. The Bison swept Player and Rookie of the Week awards for the first time since 2002 when Kristine O'Coin was named co-Player of the Week and Heather Clarke was Rookie of the Week.
The Bison return to action tomorrow with a CCC matchup against Gordon College in Wenham, Massachusetts at 5:30 p.m.
