The Nichols College golf team closed the fall with a third-place finish at the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship Monday at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
Junior
Jacob Willis was the top finisher for the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Qualifier Champions as he placed ninth at +7 (72-79); he finished even on the first day of competition.
Senior
Patrick Hesseltine and junior
Reece McLeod were next for head coach
Tim Howard's squad, each earning a share of 12th place by finishing +12. Hesseltine shot a 78 on both days of competition while McLeod rebounded from an 82 on Sunday to shoot a 74 on Monday.
Freshman
Colby Mitchell closed his first semester of collegiate golf in a share of 19th place at +13. The former CCC Rookie of the Week was +10 at the conclusion of play Saturday but rallied to shoot at 75 (+3) on Monday. Junior
John Marlborough finished the event +21.
Three things you need to know…
-The Bison have placed in the Top 10 at the NEIGA Championship in each of the last six years. Their third-place finish was their best since 2016, when they also claimed show.
-Babson College placed third, followed by Johnson & Wales (RI) and Nichols. Nicholas Gianelos (Babson) was a Medalist, finishing one-over (73-72).
-McLeod's +12 was a five stroke improvement over last season's +17.
