ResultsBERNARDSTON, Mass. - The Nichols College golf team cut 20 strokes off their first day total to earn seventh-place at the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship Sunday at Crumpin Fox Golf Club.
The Bison – who recorded a team score of 340 on Saturday – posted a 320 on Sunday to finish seventh (660; +84), ahead of such schools as Babson (8th), Western New England (9th), Amherst (13th), Wentworth (15th), and Roger Williams (18th). The only Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) affiliate with a lower score was Endicott, which was three strokes better (657; +81).
Senior captain
Kevin Wheeler (Agawam, Mass.) rebounded from an 82 Saturday to post a 75 Sunday and finished tied for seventh (157). Junior and fellow captain
Colin Whitney (Longmeadow, Mass.) was next for head coach
Al Kubicki in a tie for 17th place (80-81-161).
Sophomore
Nick Wage (Holden, Mass.) cut seven stroke off Saturday's 88 to record an 81 Sunday, giving him a two-day total of 169 and sole possession of 47th place. Freshman
Kevin Leary (Brookfield, Conn.) earned a share of 59th place by taking seven strokes off Saturday's 90 to post an 83 Sunday and close his tournament at 173. Classmate
Remy Fletcher (Billerica, Mass.) dropped from a 92 Saturday to an 83 Sunday and finished in a tie for 68th place (175).
Trinity (CT) won the event with a team score of 622 (+46), followed by Williams (635; +59), UMass Dartmouth (648; +72), Middlebury (651; +75), and Salem St. and Middlebury (657; +81).
Nichols closes its fall season on Oct. 25 when it begins play at the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass. Â
