SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Sophomore
Talia Hohmann (Marina, Calif.) collected a pair of assists as the Nichols College women's ice hockey team fell to SUNY Potsdam in a non-conference matchup on the opening day of the DoubleTree Hockey Classic hosted by Saint Michael's on Saturday at Cairns Arena. The Bison (2-9-0) will face Division I foe Sacred Heart tomorrow at 1:00 p.m., while the Bears (4-8-1) take on Saint Michael's at 4:00 p.m.
The Bears lit up the scoreboard twice in the first seven minutes of the contest. Rookie Kristen Domanski (Brooklin, Ontario) teamed up with juniors Jenn Crawford (Burlington, Ontario) and Jessica Silveira (Brampton, Ontario) at 3:24 to put Potsdam on top 1-0. Just over three and a half minutes later sophomore Alexandra Holowka (Winnipeg, Manitoba) and Crawford fed sophomore Emilee Hazelden (Bloomingdale, N.Y.) for the 2-0 advantage.

Samantha Vicari (Wayne, N.J.) scored her second goal of the season at 4:37 in the second period with help from Hohmann, who notched her first helper of the season. With 7:24 left in the stanza, Hohmann then notched her second assist of the game as she helped classmate

Tawny Buelow (Willow Grove, Pa.) knotted the game at 3-3 off an assist by junior
Megan Gerein (Dubuque, Iowa). The marker was Buelow's second of the year as Gerein recorded her third helper of the season.

Bears junior netminder Dawna Salvarinas (Mississauga, Ontario) turned away 28 pucks in the victory as sophomore
Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) stopped a game-high 30 shots for the Bison.
