Golf Fifth at Blazers Invitational

Wheeler leads team in final tune-up before CCC Championship

GRANBY, Mass. (April 27) – In its final tune-up for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship, the Nichols College men's golf team finished fifth of nine teams at the Blazer Invitational at Westover Golf Course Friday afternoon. First-year Kevin Wheeler led the Bison with an 81 to finish tied for 13th among the 48-player field.

Wheeler cut a stroke off his front nine score to card a 40 on the back of the par-70, 6,575-yard course. Nick Masciadrelli also shot a 40 on the back nine, but was two strokes back on the front to finish tied for 18th with teammate John Juterbock, who was even 41 and 41 and was fourth in the tournament in par scoring. Tyler Sleeper led the tournament in par 3 scoring and carded a tournament-best three birdies, but settled for an 84 (41-43) and a tie for 24th place. Zach Kohn tied for 33rd with an 87 (43-44).

Henry Fall of Elms College took home individual medalist honors at +2, leading the host Blazers to top team honors. Endicott College finished seven strokes off the lead (318) to finish second, led by Jackson Wyman's score of 78. Westfield State University's A team combined to shoot 323 and finish in third place, followed by Franklin Pierce in fourth (325), Nichols College (329), Westfield State B in sixth (337), Castleton State College in seventh (341), Anna Maria College in eighth (352) and Mitchell College finished ninth with a score of 480.

Nichols concludes the season at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship hosted by Western New England University Saturday and Sunday.
