Holy Cross Skates Past Women's Hockey, 7-2

Box Score HARRISVILLE, R.I. (Feb. 10) – Senior Stacey Hochkins and junior Caroline English each had a goal and an assist for the Crusaders as Holy Cross downed Nichols 7-2 in an ECAC East women's ice hockey game on Friday night at Levy Rink. With the win, Holy Cross improves to 17-2-2 overall and 13-2-0 in conference action. Nichols dips to 6-15-1 on the season and 3-11-1 in the league.

The Bison lit up the scoreboard just 4:34 into the game as first-year Kerri Nadeau fired a shot that deflected off the netminder before crossing the goal line. The forward received assists from her linemates senior Mandy Manopla and sophomore Megan Gerein.

With 33 seconds left in the opening frame, rookie Nicole Giannino found an opening among a crowd in front of the net. English sent the pass to Giannino for the power play marker.

Hochkins playing in her 100th career game put the Crusaders ahead 2-1 just 44 ticks into the second period as the puck trickled into the net after deflecting off a Nichols defender.

Freshman Chelsea Monahan netted what proved to be the game-winner with 15:38 remaining in the middle period as she tucked the puck into the net with help from classmates Meagan Sullivan and Rachel Miller. The Crusaders added two more tallies in the second off the sticks of senior Nicola Garat and freshman Francesca Panarelli.

English netted the sixth goal of the game before Nichols' senior Hannah Tardif  used a backhanded shot to net her own rebound at 5:39 in the final frame. First-year Taylor Brown sent the pass to Tardif after knocking down a pass in the attacking zone. Freshman Jessica Frascotti completed the scoring with 12:02 left in regulation.

The goalie tandem consisting of rookies Alex Stevenson and Megan Colpitts each saw time in net for the Crusaders as Stevenson picked up the win collecting 13 saves in the first two periods. Colpitts stopped 10 shots in the final 20 minutes.

All three Bison netminders manned the net combining to amass 33 saves. Sophomore Francesca Palazzo picked up the decision while first-year Tori Gianformaggio allowed the final goal on nine shots.

Holy Cross took advantage on two of its four power play chances as Nichols finished 0-for-3.

Both squads continue ECAC East play tomorrow as Nichols hosts Salve Regina at 7:40 p.m. and Holy Cross entertains Manhattanville at 2:00 p.m.
