MIDDLEBURY, Vt. (Sept. 18) – The Nichols College men's golf team cut eight strokes off of its first round score to finish 16th of 24 teams at the 28th Duke Nelson Invitational hosted by Middlebury College at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The Bison stood in 18th after the first round of play and moved into 16th with a second-round 318 on the par-71, 6,379-yard course.
Leading by four strokes after 18 holes, Skidmore fired a 292 on day two to finish with a 588 and the team title. The Thoroughbreds were followed by Williams (607), '10 champion Rensselaer (608), Springfield (609) and host Middlebury (611). Nichols finished with a 644. Skidmore's Anthony Dilisio captured medalist honors with a 72 and 70 for a two-day total of 142 (E).
Brian Sears rebounded from a tough opening round to card a 74 (+2) on Sunday, finishing tied for 57th with teammate
Kevin Wheeler, who added one stroke to his first-round score. Both finished with a two-day 159.
Joe Gallagher fell back to 77th place after the second round of play with an 86 in Sunday's round, finishing the event with a two-day 164.
John Juterbock cut two strokes off his Saturday round score of 84 to remain tied for 84th place with a two-day 166.
Zach Kohn rallied to cut eight strokes off his first round score to card an 82 on Sunday, finishing tied for 98th place with a two-day 172.
Nichols hosts Anna Maria, Rhode Island College and Becker for a noon 'B' match on Tuesday at Dudley Hill Golf Course before hosting the Commonwealth Coast Conference Fall Invitational Thursday, September 22 at Green Hill Golf Course in Worcester.
