BREWSTER, Mass. (Oct. 18) – The Nichols College golf team placed 24th at the 77th Annual NEIGA Championship Tuesday. The Bison cut 25 strokes off their opening round score to move up from 32nd place, finishing 12th among Division III teams.
Kevin Wheeler won the bunker contest among the 168-player field, and fired a 78 on the second day to finish with a two-day 159 and tie for 64th.
Brian Sears carded one of the best scores in round two with a 74 (+2), cutting 13 strokes off his opening round score to finish with a two-day 161 tied for 82nd after placing 139th on Monday.
Joe Gallagher also had a tremendous second round, cutting 12 strokes off his Monday round to shoot a 78 and finish tied with teammate
Zach Kohn (84-84) with a two-day 168 in 124th place.
Nick Masciadrelli rounded out the scoring with identical 87's in both rounds to tie for 149th with a two-day 174.
Division II Bentley University won the overall championship, while Bryant University took the Division I crown. Salem State University claimed the Division III title. Steven Zychowski of The College of the Holy Cross was named medalist by one stroke with a two-day 146.
Nichols wraps up the fall season at the Johnson & Wales Fall Match Play Tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Cranston Country Club.
