Box Score BOSTON, Mass. (Sept. 14) -- During the first meeting between the programs, the Wheelock College women's soccer team dropped an 8-1 decision to Nichols College on Tuesday evening on Winsor Field. The Wildcats, who were continuing a season-opening six-game homestand, remained winless through four contests, while the Bison improved to 3-1.
Sophomore Jessica Brasil (Methuen, Mass.) netted a hat trick for the visitors, while senior Nicole Johnson (Westhampton, Mass.) took a break from her usual goalkeeper duties to turn in a pair of markers.
Chelsea Shaughnessy (Halifax, Mass.) got Nichols on the board in the eighth minute, and Kaitlyn DiBuono (Auburn, Mass.) crossed a ball in for Samantha Abro (Northborough, Mass.) to head in in the 24th minute. Starleena Cash (Springfield, Mass.) gave the Bison a 3-0 lead in the 35th minute off a nice cross through a defender's legs from Maria DiTommaso (Rindge, N.H.), finishing it off the crossbar.
Johnson netted her pair in under three minutes, the first coming from a touch pass by Holly Ventura (Hudson, Mass.) in the 61st minute, and the latter a through ball from Katelyn Delaney (Weymouth, Mass.) that Johnson took in before cutting left as the keeper was charging out.
Brasil capped the Bison's scoring with three goals in less than a seven minute span. She one-timed a pass from Chantal Lemoine (Belchertown, Mass.) in the 80th minute before popping in a rebound from Brittany Tremont (Guilford, Conn.) 37 seconds later. Brasil completed the hat trick in the 87th minute from the far right post, converting a cross from Julie Monroe (Whitman, Mass.).
Sophomore Maureen Lynch (Holbrook, Mass.) stopped one shot in picking up the victory for the Bison, who had 12 players notch at least one point and every member of the roster see action in the game.
Junior Alexandra Chiesa made 16 saves for Wheelock, yielding only an eighth-minute goal during the first half of the opening stanza. Classmate Adriana Perry buried a penalty kick to account for the Wildcats' marker.
Wheelock returns to action on Saturday when it hosts the University of Maine Farmington at 1 p.m. Nichols hosts Bay Path College Thursday evening at 7 p.m. on Vendetti Field.
