DUDLEY, Mass. (April 8) -- The Nichols College men's tennis team won across the board Thursday afternoon for the fifth time this season, defeating Eastern Nazarene, 9-0, in a The Commonwealth Coast Conference match at the Francis W. Robinson Courts. Nichols, which won its eighth consecutive match, improves to 11-4 overall and 6-0 in league matches, while the Lions dip to 3-8 overall and 1-3 in conference action.
Playing in the top singles spot for the second time this season, David Drucker (Bellmore, N.Y.) ran his win streak to eight with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Austin Steelman.
Tyler McLaughlin (Hollis, N.H.) earned a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 2 singles over James Rich, and Eliot Wuhrmann (Fontainbleau, France) picked up a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the third flight over Tyler Restrick.
Back in the fourth spot, Tony Ramsdell (Gardner, Mass.) handled Chris Ramey, 6-0, 6-2, while Dan Young (Washington Depot, Conn.) remained undefeated in conference play with a 6-1, 6-1 win, today in the fifth spot. Kevin Pittz (Delmar, N.Y.) won his first singles match of the year, earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ryan Robbins at the sixth flight.
Nichols dropped only four games in doubles play, as DeLuca and McLaughlin got back in the groove with an 8-1 win over Steelman and Restrick. Drucker and Wuhrmann defeated Rich and Ramey, 8-1, at the second spot, and Ramsdell teamed up with Ricky Andretta (Pittsfield, Mass.) for an 8-2 win over Richard Crooks and Robbins at the third flight.
Nichols travels to Gordon on Saturday to start a three game road swing with a noon TCCC match. Eastern Nazerene hosts Endicott on Saturday at 1p.m.
