WORCESTER, Mass. (Oct. 21) – The Nichols College men's golf team captured the title at the 2010 The Commonwealth Coast Conference Golf Invitational Thursday at Green Hill Golf Course. The Bison combined for a 313 to finish five strokes ahead of defending champion Endicott and win for the second time in four years. Western New England College first year Patrick Donahue earned individual medalist honors with a 76 (+4).
The teams battled extreme weather conditions including fog, wind, rain and hail throughout play, and sat through a 17 minute weather delay for a late-afternoon storm that rolled through the par-72, 6,483 yard course.
The Bison placed all five golfers in the top 10 and saw all four scoring players card below an 80 to win the event, while the Gulls finished with three top 10 players to finish with a 318. University of New England and Western New England College tied for third place with a 322, while Anna Maria finished seven strokes back in fifth with a 329. The Roger Williams club team took sixth with a 364 and Wentworth finished seventh with a 371.
Nor'Easters senior Griffin Andrews was runner-up on the individual leaderboard with a 77 (+5), edging out five players who carded 78's.
Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.), Jon-Paul Chouinard (Natick, Mass.) and Brian Sears (North Grafton, Mass.) each carded a 78 for the Bison while Dan Cafasso (Prospect, Conn.) finished one stroke back in a tie for eighth place with a 79. Josh Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) tied for 10th with an 80.
