NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – The Nichols College golf team rallied from fourth place after day one to finish second in the rain-shortened Hampton Inn Classic hosted by UMass-Dartmouth at the Allendale Country Club Saturday. The tournament was shortened to 27 holes with nine played on Saturday due to inclement weather. Nichols was led by juniors Pat Pio (Somers, Conn.) and Shawn Santos (Agawam, Mass.), who both tied for fifth on the individual leader board at 10-over par.
Santos climbed all the way from 19th at 8-over after the first day of play to finish in the six-way tie for fifth. Pio was tied for first at three-over after the first day of play with Trinity's Jay Driscoll, who also managed to tie for fifth at the tournament's conclusion.
Nichols combined for a 487 in the 27 holes, standing at 55-over, 13 strokes behind top team Trinity. The Bison finished second out of 14 teams,
Sophomore Joshua Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) wrapped up play at 19-over in a tie for 27th with a 127, and senior Chris Healy (Charlton, Mass.) tied for 31st one stroke behind. Bruce Carter (Worcester, Mass.) finished tied for 33rd at 21-over with a 129.
Nichols is back in action at the Western New England College Invitational at Veterans Memorial Golf Course on April 16th.
