DUDLEY, Mass. – The Nichols College women's basketball team has earned the No. 8 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Tournament and will travel to No. 1 University of New England for a Quarterfinal contest on Tuesday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m.
The Bison enter the playoffs with a 3-22 record (2-16 CCC). Junior
Taylor Daniels (Dudley, Mass.) leads the team in scoring at 12.4 ppg and has scored 10-or-more points in 16 of the team's 25 games, highlighted by a season-high 22 points against Eastern Nazarene on Saturday.
Senior captain
Jessica Kelliher (Marshfield, Mass.) is averaging a career-high 8.0 ppg to go along with 4.2 rpg and 3.4 apg. She scored a career-high 17 points in a win over Gordon back on January 14 and collected a career-high eight dimes against Wentworth on January 23.
Freshman
Amy Assad (Milton, Mass.) joined the team in January and garnered CCC Rookie of the Week honors on February 15. In 17 games, she is averaging 7.4 ppg and 6.0 rpg and recorded two-straight double-doubles against Western New England on February (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Salve Regina on February 10 (12 points, 11 rebounds). UNE finished the regular season a perfect 18-0 in conference play (22-3 overall) and was ranked No. 18 in last week's D3hoops.com Top 25. The Nor'easters are led in scoring by junior Alicia Brown (Greenland, N.H.) at 14.4 ppg and senior Alanna Vose (Cushing, Maine) at 11.4 ppg. Senior Lauren Hayden (Chantilly, Va.) pulls down a team-leading 5.7 rpg and also leads the squad in assists (4.4 apg).
The Nor'easters lead the all-time series, 19-5, and have won 14 in a row against the Bison. These two schools met in the CCC Quarterfinal round during the 2011-12 campaign with the Nor'easters securing a 66-53 win in Biddeford.
In other CCC Quarterfinal action on Tuesday, No. 2 Western New England hosts No. 7 Salve Regina (7:00 p.m.), No. 3 Roger Williams hosts No. 6 Eastern Nazarene (6:00 p.m.), and No. 4 Endicott hosts No. 5 Curry (7:30 p.m.).Â
