DUDLEY, Mass. (2/21/2026) - The Nichols College Women's basketball program had lots to celebrate on Saturday afternoon as they honored their four graduating seniors with a 71-53 victory over Curry College to close out the 2025-2026 season.
With the win, the Bison close out their season with a winning record of 13-12 (6-10 CNE). Curry, with the loss, caps off the year at 4-21 (3-13 CNE) overall.
It was a great evening all around for the seniors, with guard
Alyvia Smith totaling a game-high 23 points on 9-of-22 (40.9%) shooting, while
Tianna Fernandez added a career-high 14 points and eight rebounds.
Adriana Romano matched 12 points and 12 rebounds in the win, earning herself the second double-double of her collegiate career. Graduate student
Summer Klein was also in double-figures with 11 points, while the Bison finished the day 29-of-72 (40.3%) from the field, and a 43-35 edge in rebounds.
The Bison opened the first quarter of play with strong performances on both ends of the court. Romano put the Bison on the board first with a quick layup following a rebound, moments before Fernandez achieved the same feat for her first points of the day, putting Nichols up 4-0. With the teams battling back and forth, the Bison continued their offensive push when a steal from Smith turned into a fast break the opposite way, ending in a layup to put the home team up six points with a minute left in the quarter.
With Nichols up 16-10, the second quarter favored the Bison the seniors on their big day. All three senior captains shared a combination of points, beginning with consecutive tip-in layups from Fernandez to kickstart a 13-5 surge, furthering Nichols' lead to 29-15. Throughout the period, Smith contributed to the fun with six points and two steals while Romano added four points, three rebounds and one steal. Fernandez ended the frame with eight points and four rebounds, boosting the Bison to a halftime lead of 38-23.
Entering the third quarter of play, Curry began to trade blows with the Bison in an effort swing the momentum in their favor. Though Curry was able to knock down 15 points in retaliation, the Bison were able to consistently maintain a double-digit lead throughout the quarter, with their lead holding steady at 51-38 through three.
In the fourth and final quarter of the game, the Bison put up their largest point margin of the game thanks to a layup from freshman
Jaelize Rivera, extending the difference to 22 points. The challenge would prove to be too much for the Colonels, with Smith landing a three on her final collegiate shot with two seconds left, with classmate
Kya Burdier adding the assist.
