Brandon Roode (Griswold, Conn.) picked up huge wins at singles and doubles to lead the Nichols College men's tennis team to an 8-1 win over Gordon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action Wednesday evening at the Pomfret School.
The Bison have now won seven consecutive matches against the Fighting Scots - last losing in the 2007-08 season.
Nichols (10-5, 2-1 CCC) coming off its first conference loss in two years came out the gates with a ton of energy, sweeping through the doubles matches.
Roode and freshman
Austin DuBois (Simsbury, Conn.) got the best of junior Zach Hall (Sugar Land, Texas) and freshman Mason Casady (Santa Barbara, Calif.) in the top flight, 8-4.
The Bison took the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches by identical 8-1 scores. At No. 2 doubles, sophomore
James Smith (Monte Sereno, Calif.) and junior
Josh Halpern (Secaucus, N.J.) took down freshmen Michael D'Antuono (Mapleville, R.I.) and Peter Godwin (Manchester, Conn.) while sophomore
Joan Castillo (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) and senior
Cam Lewis (Bolton, Conn.) took care of business at No. 3 doubles against freshman James Hawn (Southborough, Mass.) and junior Joe Daugherty (Norfolk, Va.).
The Bison continued their mission in singles, clinching the overall match very quickly through No. 3 and No. 4 singles. Halpern defeated D'Antuono at No. 3 singles 6-0, 6-1 while Castillo took down Hawn 6-1, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Roode came away with a huge win at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-1 over Hall, who came into the day a perfect 10-0 in the top flight for Gordon.
The Fighting Scots (9-2, 2-1 CCC) came away with their lone point at No. 2 singles as Casady got the best of Smith 6-4, 6-3.
Sophomore
Jake Zapatka (Wethersfield, Conn.) defeated Godwin 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and DuBois won 6-1, 6-2 over Daugherty at No. 6 singles to close out the match.

The Bison travel to take on conference foe Curry on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. The Fighting Scots host Western New England on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
