Box Score HARRISVILLE, R.I. – Senior goaltender
Tori Gianformaggio (Huntington Beach, Calif.) made 36 saves as the Nichols College women's ice hockey team fell 3-0 to No. 5 Norwich in Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) East action Tuesday night at Levy Rink.
Despite the loss, the Bison (7-15-0, 4-10-0 ECAC East) finish their home schedule with the most wins in a season at Levy Rink (four).
The Cadets (16-4-3, 13-0-2 ECAC East) outshot the Bison 29-10 through the first two periods, however neither team could crack the scoreboard. At 6:52 of the third period, the Cadets finally broke open the score when senior Liz Gemmiti (Toronto, Ontario) redirected the shot from the point by freshman Kim Tiberi (Raleigh, N.C) by Gianformaggio.
Senior Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) added another one just 51 seconds later as she raced Gianformaggio to a puck out in front of the net. The Bison goaltender poked it up and it deflected off of Anderson and over Gianformaggio into the net. Tiberi was credited with her second helper of the game.
The Bison played with two extra skaters for 1:03 at the end of the third period with freshman Maki Shuchuk (Madison, Wis.) in the penalty box for a high-sticking penalty and the net empty, but couldn't get anything through the Cadets defense. Freshman Sarah Schwenzfeir (Hingham, Mass.) potted an empty-netter at 19:47 to put the Bison away.
The Bison were outshot 39-14 for the game with senior
Alyssa Bufis (Linden, N.J.) leading the team with five shots. The Cadets were led by freshman Erin Joyce (Manchester, N.H.) with six shots.
Gianformaggio fell to 6-9-0 on the year while freshman Laurie King (Waddington, N.Y.) stopped all 14 shots she faced and improved to 5-0-1 on the season.
The Bison travel to take on St. Michael's tomorrow for a conference match beginning at 7:30 p.m. The Cadets play at Castleton on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
