Women's Ice Hockey Secures Home Opener Win Against FSU, 5-2

BURRILLVILLE, R.I (10/31/2026) - The Nichols College women's ice hockey team continued its strong start to the 2026-27 campaign on Saturday afternoon, earning a convincing 5-2 victory over Framingham State University at Levy Rink.

The Bison improved to 2-0-0 on the season, with the Rams dropping to 0-2-0 concluding the home-and-home series.

Nichols wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, as Alexis Pacheco found the back of the net just 45 seconds into the opening period. Kerstin Ambruso and Angalisa Caceda picked up assists on the game's opening goal. The Bison maintained their offensive pressure throughout the period before Pacheco struck again with just 10 seconds remaining, finishing off a feed from Caceda and Cela MacDougall to give Nichols a 2-0 advantage heading into the first intermission.

Framingham State cut into the deficit just 42 seconds into the second period when Sarah Lewis scored to make it a 2-1 contest. However, the Bison responded with an impressive offensive surge, scoring three goals in a span of just 74 seconds. Freshman Emily Gosselin restored the two-goal advantage at 6:28, with assists from Isabelle Brennan and Rhea Bullens. Just 21 seconds later, freshman Emma Singleton extended the lead to 4-1, assisted by Sophie Costello-Krakowski and Sienna Reeves. Keira Goffe capped the scoring outburst at 7:42, finding the back of the net unassisted to put Nichols ahead 5-1.

The Rams added a third-period goal at 1:48 from Mason Puumala, assisted by Sophie Brien and Teegan Kittle, but the Bison defense held firm the rest of the way to secure the 5-2 victory.

Nichols controlled the offensive numbers throughout the afternoon, outshooting Framingham State 43-20 while holding a 34-18 advantage in faceoffs. Pacheco led the Bison with two goals, while Goffe, Gosselin, and Singleton each added a goal. Caceda contributed two assists, while Ambruso, Brennan, Bullens, Costello-Krakowski, MacDougall, and Reeves each recorded an assist.

Between the pipes, junior Taylor Daley delivered a strong performance, stopping 18 of the 20 shots she faced to earn the victory.

The Bison return to action on Tuesday, November 3rd, when they travel to face Roger Williams University for a 6:00 PM match up.
