Colin Whitney (Longmeadow, Mass.) was eight strokes better on day two of the Rhode Island College Invitational and helped the Nichols College golf team earn a share of 10th place Saturday at Triggs Golf Course.
The Bison cut 18 strokes off Friday's total and finished with a combined score of 335 (+47). They closed the event with a two-day score of 688 (+112), equaling the score of Babson College.
Junior
Benjamin Ilg (Bristol, R.I.) shot an 86 for the second-straight day and finished in a tie for 42nd place with a two-day total of 172 (+28). Junior
Kevin Wheeler (Agawam, Mass.) tied for 51st place as he cut nine strokes off yesterday's score to post an 83 and bring his two-day score to 175 (+31).
Sophomore
Tyler Sleeper (Indian Orchard, Mass.) was 12 strokes better than Friday and shot an 87 on Saturday. His two-day score of 186 (+42) placed him in a tie for 70th place. Classmate
Bobby Lucy (Shirley, Mass.) was two strokes behind Sleeper, finishing with a two-day score of 188 (+44).
Rhode Island College rallied to win the event as it was eight strokes better than Friday and completed the event with a team score of 632 (+56). UMass Dartmouth finished seven strokes off the lead and placed second (639; +63), followed by Husson (640; +64), Endicott (649; +73), and Tufts (658; +82).
Nichols competes at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational next weekend at the Allendale Country Club.
