MANCHESTER, Mass. - The Nichols College golf team finished second at the 2013 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Qualifier with a team score of 310 Thursday at Essex Country Club.

Western New England finished the event with the lowest team score on the day with a 306. The Bison were second, followed by University of New England (312), Endicott (314), Wentworth (332), Roger Williams (334), and Eastern Nazarene (542). The top four teams will now advance to the spring championship.

Sophomore Colin Whitney (Longmeadow, Mass.) shot a 68 (-2) to lead all participants. He posted a 34 on the front nine and a 34 on the back nine. Junior Kevin Wheeler (Agawam, Mass.) and freshman Nick Wage (Holden, Mass.) each finished at +9 (79); Wheeler posted a 42 on the front and 37 on the back while Wage posted 38-41. Sophomore Tyler Sleeper was 16 strokes off the lead with an 84 (46-38; +14).

The 2014 CCC Golf Championship will be held on April 26 and 27 with Western New England serving as the host institution. The championship site is to be determined.
