MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Nichols College golf team placed 10th at the Duke Nelson Invitational Sunday morning at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course. The Bison finished with a two-day total of 622.
Sophomore Colin Whitney (Longmeadow, Mass.) was tops amongst the Nichols golfers with a two-day total of 145. After shooting an even par 70 on the first day of competition, Whitney finished five-over on Sunday (75) and finished in a tie for fourth place. Junior Kevin Wheeler (Agawam, Mass.) finished the event at +13. He shaved seven strokes off Saturday's total to post a 73 (+3) on Sunday – good for a 28th place finish.
Freshman Nick Wage (Holden, Mass.), meanwhile, knocked six strokes off Saturday's total and shot a 78 (+8) on Sunday, bringing his two-day total to 161 (+21) to finish in a tie for 66th place. Sophomore Benjamin Ilg (Bristol, R.I.) was nine strokes better 78 (+8) on Sunday and tied for 81st place with a total score of 165. Junior Nick Masciadrelli (Westfield, Mas.) tied for 93rd place with a two-day total of 169 (85-84).
Middlebury won the event with a team score of 596, followed by Clarkson (597), Williams (599), Salem St. (602), and Hamilton (605).
The Bison return to action on Thursday when they compete at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) qualifier.
