BEVERLY, Mass. - The Nichols College golf team closed the 2012-13 campaign with a third-place finish at the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Golf Championship Sunday afternoon at the Beverly Golf and Tennis Club.
The Bison shot a 315, shaving 19 strokes off Saturday's total, which brought their two-day total to 649 (334-315). Endicott won the tournament with a 626 (312-314) while Western New England placed second with a 642 (324-318).Wentworth was fourth with a 685 (341-344).
Freshman
Colin Whitney (Longmeadow, Mass.) shot a 78 for the second-straight afternoon (+8) to finish in fourth place with a combined total of 156. Sophomore
Kevin Wheeler (Agawam, Mass.) – who shot an 87 (+17) on Saturday – rebounded to shoot a 74 (+4) and place sixth (161).
Freshman
Benjamin Ilg (Bristol, R.I.) moved up three spots from the end of day one to finish in a tie for seventh with a 78 (+8) – six strokes better than Saturday's round. Senior captain
Matthew Quigley (Sturbridge, Mass.) was three strokes better than his opening round total and finished 16th with a 173 (88-85). Sophomore
Jordon Kadlik (Kennebunk, Maine) shot a 94 in the final round (+24) and finished with a two-day total of 179 – good for 18th place.
Endicott's Austin Teal was the medalist as he finished with a two-day total of 150 (+10), shooting a 76 in round one and a 74 on Sunday.
