Bison Blanked by Nationally-Ranked Norwich, 5-0

Box Score

NORTHFIELD, Vt.— The Nichols College women's ice hockey team allowed only 30 shots and took 14 of its own as the Bison were blanked 5-0 by nationally-ranked Norwich in an ECAC Women's East game on Saturday afternoon at Kreitzberg Arena.

The 30 shots were the fewest allowed in the ten game series-to-date while the 14 shots taken were the most by a Bison in a single game at Kreitzberg Arena.

Norwich (19-3-3, 16-2 ECAC East) held a 1-0 lead after the first period as Kaycie Anderson (Maple Plain, Minn.) scored at the 15:21 mark on assists by Meghan Papagno (Wakefield, Mass.) and Tyne Gove (Berwick, Ont.).

The Cadets tacked on three more goals in the second frame, starting with senior Stephanie Invernezzi's (Hingham, Mass.) poke from just outside the crease 9:23 into the period. Haley Gibson (Richmond, Ont.) and Jacqueline Perez (San Gabriel, Calif.) tallied assists on the goal.

Norwich would round out the second period with goals by Emily MacKinnon (Kirkland, Que.) and Nicholette Gosselin (Barre, Vt.) at the 13:44 and 17:36 marks.  MacKinnon collected the feed from Maggie Cross (Wattsburgh, Pa.) and Kayla Parsons (Fairbanks, Alaska), while Gosselin's tally was set up by Parsons and Lucie Manhartova (Prague, Czech Republic).

The Cadets would round out the final period with one more goal, as Anderson collected a pass from Papagno in between the circles and fed the puck to Gove on the wing, for the one-timer.

Junior goaltender Francesca Palazzo (Bernardston, Mass.) totaled 25 saves for the Bison (3-19-1, 1-14-1 ECAC East), while Norwich goaltender Kelly Fisk (Hannibal, N.Y.) recorded 14 saves en route to her second shutout of the season.

Nichols continues its regular season slate with an 8:10 p.m. game on Monday when the Bison host Salve Regina. The Cadets enter the ECAC Women's East postseason tournament as the top seed and will host No. 8 Plymouth State in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Feb. 23 at 3:00 p.m.
