Bison Bested by #5 Norwich, 5-1

BURRILLVILLE, R.I. – Senior Jillayne DeBus (Howell, Mich.) and junior Tori Charron (Saco, Maine) each had a three point night as #5 Norwich defeated host Nichols, 5-1, in an ECAC East women's hockey matchup on Saturday night at Levy Rink.
 
DeBus notched a pair of goals and a helper while Charron pitched in with two assists and one tally as both helped setup the game winner by junior Renee Lortie (Cornwall, Ontario).  Lortie finished with two points as sophomore Tyne Gove (Berwick, Ontario) also scored for the Cadets.
 
For the second consecutive game, the Bison line consisting of sophomore Lisa Coskren (Norwood, Mass.), junior Megan Gerein (Dubuque, Iowa) and sophomore Grace Murphy (Montclair, Va.) combined efforts to put the squad on the scoreboard.
 
Charron wasted no time to light the lamp for the visitors as she capitalized on a one-on-one opportunity just 21 seconds into the matchup. Coskren evened the game as she deposited a rebound off the initial shot taken by Gerein at 5:35 for her second goal of the weekend. With 6:58 left in the frame, Lortie sent in a shot from close range as Norwich took the lead for good on a power play marker.
 
The Cadets added to their lead midway through the second on a goal by DeBus at 10:31. Through 40 minutes of play, Norwich claimed a slim 20-18 edge on shots.
 
DeBus struck once more with a tally early in the third as Norwich took a 4-1 advantage at 2:27. Gove then capped the scoring at 17:15 with a power play goal at 17:15. Freshman Lucie Manhartova (Prague, Czech Republic) assisted on the play.
 
Norwich sophomore netminder Loren Carrier (Chandler, Ariz.) improved to 8-1-2 as she stopped 24 shots. First-year Nia Kelly (Cary, N.C.) slipped to 3-6-0 despite a game-high 30 saves.
 
For the game, the Cadets outshot the Bison 35-25 and went 2-for-4 on the power play.
 
Nichols (3-13-0, 1-9-0 ECACE) wraps up a four-game homestand with an 8:10 p.m. showdown with Division II Franklin Pierce on Tuesday. The Cadets (12-2-3, 11-1-0 ECACE) resume action at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at New England College.
