Golf Finishes Fourth At CCC Championship

Wheeler rebounds in final round for 12th place finish

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 29) – The Nichols College men's golf team finished fourth at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship after Sunday's final round at Veteran's Memorial Golf Course. Kevin Wheeler moved up five spots to finish 12th with a 78 (+6) in the final round.

Endicott held onto its first round lead to take the team title with a two-day 628 (319-309) and host Western New England was second four strokes back at 632 (320-312). The University of New England and Nichols teams carded identical 328 scores on Sunday, but the Bison couldn't overcome a nine-stroke differential from Saturday's round. UNE finished third with a 661 (333-328), and Nichols was fourth at 670 (342-328).

Wheeler rebounded from a tough Saturday outing to take nine strokes off his first round score. He moved up five spots into 12th place with a 78 on Sunday, finishing with a 165. Tyler Sleeper also moved up on the individual leaderboard after the final round, cutting seven strokes off his Saturday score to finish tied for 13th with a 169 (88-81). John Juterbock dropped two spots to a tie for 15th after a Sunday 86, finishing with a 170 (84-86). Zach Kohn moved up one spot to 19th by cutting seven strokes off his first round score to card a two-day 173 (90-83), and after leading Nichols Saturday, Nick Masciadrelli dropped to 20th with a final round 95.

Eric Hedberg took the individual title with a 154 (79-75), with teammate and first round leader Patrick Donahue scoring a 156 (76-80) to earn runner-up status. All five Endicott players finished in the top eight, led by a 156 from both Jackson Wyman and Brett Malboeuf.

The championship is the final event of the year for the Bison golf team.


First Round Recap

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (April 28)
– The Nichols College men's golf team stands in a tie for third place after the opening round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship at Veteran's Memorial Golf Course. The Bison are 23 strokes off leader Endicott on the par-72, 6,433-yard course.

Nick Masciadrelli leads the Bison with an 83 in a tie for 11th place, while John Juterbock is one stroke back in a tie for 13th. Kevin Wheeler is 15th with an 87, and Tyler Sleeper scored an 88 in 17th. Zach Kohn rounds out the 20-player field with a 90.

Patrick Donahue of host Western New England University sits atop the individual leaderboard with a 76 (+4), while Endicott leads the team field at 319 (+31). The Golden Bears are one stroke back at 320, while University of New England and Nichols trail in third at 333.

Tee times for the second round begin at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, Sunday, April 29, barring a freeze delay.
