(Jan. 21) – Hot off a record-setting win, the Nichols College women's ice hockey team traveled to defending national champion and top-ranked Norwich University for a Saturday afternoon game. The #1 Cadets dealt the Bison a 9-0 loss to win their seventh game in a row and extend their unbeaten streak to a nation's best 14 games.
A trio of Bison netminders saw action against the nation's top offense.
Francesca Palazzo made nine first period saves, while
Rebecca Cohen stopped 14 shots in just over one period of action.
Tori Gianformaggio finished out the final frame with 14 stops. Each goaltender allowed three goals.
Tyne Gove put Norwich on the board 3:39 into the game, and a pair of scores less than three minutes apart later in the frame sent the Cadets to the locker room with a 3-0 lead.
Norwich used a power play and a short-handed goal in the middle period to hold a 5-0 lead after two periods before using a 20-2 shot advantage in the final frame to pot four more goals.
Amanda Wilks and Julie Fortier each had two goals and an assist for the Cadets, leading 13 players who notched at least a point. Goaltender Joanie Plamondon backstopped the nation's top defense with seven saves to improve to 5-1-1 on the year.
Nichols plays its remaining eight games at home, starting with 7:40 p.m. games against UMass Boston and Saint Anselm January 27 and 28.
