HEBRON, Conn.(Sept. 11) – The Nichols College golf team finished eighth of 11 teams at the Trinity College Golf Invitational Saturday and Sunday. The Bison were led by a 10th-place tie finish from
Kevin Wheeler at the season-opening tournament, played at the Blackledge and Tallwood Country Clubs.
Wheeler fired a team-best, one-over 73 in the first round, his first collegiate round, and followed with a 79 Sunday to finish with a 152 (+8).
Joe Gallagher finished six strokes back with a two-day 158, scoring a 79 in each round to place tied for 26th. Nick Maciadrelli tied for 46th in his first match as a Bison, with an 81 score in each round and a composite 162.
John Juterbock was one stroke behind at 163 (81, 82) tied in 51st place with newcomer
Zach Kohn, who took a stroke off his first day score of an 82 in his first collegiate match.
Brian Sears rounded out the scoring with a 169 (82, 87).
Nichols had six eagles in the tournament, second only to runner-up Manhattanville. Two came from Juterbock.
Host Trinity won the event led by medalist Jack Palley, who carded a two-round score of 142. Palley shot a 69 on Saturday at Blackledge and a 73 today at Tallwood to win the individual crown by three strokes over Wesleyan senior captain Peter Taylor. The Bantams totaled 591 as a team, which was nine strokes better than second-place Manhattanville.
Nichols returns to action Monday in a home match with Wentworth, Becker, Suffolk and Mitchell.
