Gordon junior Karina Scavo found success early as she planted a free kick into the net from 30-yards out at 4:24. The Scots added another goal in the eighth minute as junior Rachael Ashley doled out a pass to classmate Caitlin Nedde who snuck the ball past the Nichols keeper from eight yards away. Another free kick allowed the visitors to increase the lead to 3-0 via senior Hala Coker's cleat with 12:58 remaining in the first half. Gordon outshot the Bison 8-4 while each squad did not have a corner kick chance.
After the intermission, Gordon took five of its nine shots before Nichols converted on its only attempt of the frame as Shaughnessy's 30-yard strike from the left side put the Bison on the scoreboard at 64:56. Rookie Hannah Midwinter added an insurance goal in the 76th minute as she threaded the ball through a scramble inside the 18-yard box. Each team would have one corner kick opportunity in the stanza.
Sophomore Kari Christensen played a majority of the contest in net for Gordon making three saves. Classmate Danielle Maguire saw just over seven minutes of action in relief. On the day, 12 of Gordon's 17 shots were on net and the team took one corner kick.
Junior
Maureen Lynch made eight stops for the Bison. As a team, Nichols shot four of its five attempts on goal and had one corner kick chance.
Both teams host non-conference matchups at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Nichols (0-4-0, 0-1-0) entertains Wheelock, while Gordon (3-1-0, 1-0-0) takes on Daniel Webster.
