GROTON, Conn. (Oct. 5) – First year
Kevin Wheeler took top individual honors and led the Nichols College men's golf team to a first place finish at the Mitchell Invitational held at Shennecossett Golf Course Wednesday afternoon. Wheeler finished with a 76 (+5) for his first top-place finish, two strokes ahead of his nearest competitor after posting the best score of the front nine. The Bison combined for a 331, finishing three strokes ahead of second-place Newbury.
Zach Kohn cut four strokes off his front nine scorecard to tie for sixth place with an 84.
Morgan Billings finished ninth with an 85, while
Brian Sears rallied from a tough front nine to tie with teammate
Matthew Quigley in 10th place with an 86.
Newbury's B Squad finished in third place with a 342, while Becker was four strokes back with a 346 in fourth place. Host Mitchell placed fifth with a 392.
Nichols returns to action Sunday at Green Hill Golf Course in Worcester for the 9th Annual Bison Invitational. The event will be part of Nichols College athletics' Think Pink Week, promoting breast cancer awareness.
