Golf Ties for Seventh at ECAC DIII Championships

Wheeler finishes tied for fifth in individual leaderboard

HAMPDEN, Mass. (Oct. 2) – The Nichols College golf team finished tied for seventh place at the 2011 ECAC Division III New England Men's Golf Championship at par-72, 6,833-yard Hampden Country Club in Hampden, Mass. The event was shortened to one 18-hole round on Sunday after Saturday's opening round was washed out. The Bison were led by first year Kevin Wheeler, who finished tied for fifth place at two-over.

Wheeler was one-over on the front and back nines to finish with a 74 to lead the Bison. Brian Sears finished with an 80 tied for 32nd, while Zach Kohn was two strokes back tied for 44th with an 82. John Juterbock cut three strokes off his front nine score to post an 83 in a tie for 49th place, and Joe Gallagher carded a 44 on the front and back nine to finish with an 88 tied for 64th.

Led by individual medalist Nick Zolotas (70 (-2)), Salem State took top team honors with a 297, while Husson finished one stroke behind at 298. Western New England placed third with a 304. Nichols tied with Suffolk in seventh with a 319.

Nichols returns to action Wednesday when the Bison host Mitchell in an 11 a.m. 'B' match at Dudley Hill Golf Course.
