GRANBY, Mass. (Sept. 29) – Nichols College first year Brian Sears (North Grafton, Mass.) tied for second place on the individual leaderboard to help the Bison to a second place finish at the Blazers Golf Invitational hosted by Elms College Wednesday at Westover Golf Course.
Sears finished the front nine at even par, and was one over on the back nine to finish with a 73 (+1) and tie with Worcester State's Bob Bruso for second place. Elms College sophomore Phil Rurak shot an even-par 72 to earn individual medalist honors and lead the Blazers' white squad to a first place score of 305.
Nichols College finished in second place with a composite 317. Rhode Island College and Westfield State University finished in a tie for third (320), Worcester State University finished fifth (324), Anna Maria College placed sixth (325), Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) finished seventh (327), Franklin Pierce University came in eighth (343) and Mitchell College and Daniel Webster College tied for ninth (353). Suffolk University claimed 11th place (358) while Emmanuel College and Becker College scored a 360 each to tie for 12th place. Elms' green team placed 14th (363) and Newbury College rounded out the field of 15 teams with 403 points.
Senior Josh Paulhus (Sutton, Mass.) finished tied for 10th place with a 78 (+6), while sophomore Nick Deni (Enfield, Conn.) was two strokes back in a tie for 16th with an 80 (+8). Jon-Paul Chouinard (Natick, Mass.) tied for 33rd place with an 86, and Joe Gallagher (Hopewell Jct., N.Y.) rounded out the squad in 37th with an 87.
Nichols travels to Stow, Mass., for the ECAC Division III Championship this weekend.
